2008 White Cliff Sauvignon Blanc Sacred Hill, New Zealand: Hugely herbal and limey-zesty. Searing acidity is absolutely fine as long as you drink this with food (not an aperitif). 2007 Flagstone Winery Shiraz, Western Cape, South Africa: A full-bodied, dark shiraz with more earthy flavors than fruity ones in the classic style of South Africa. That said, there's some pleasant blackberry and blackcurrant notes here with some pepper underneath. This wine was aged for 24 months in oak, two-thirds of which was American.
